The first batik village destination in Indonesia that is a must-visit is Kampung Batik Trusmi in Cirebon. Located in Pleret District, Cirebon Regency, West Java Province, Kampung Batik Trusmi stands as one of the largest batik villages in West Java—and indeed, in all of Indonesia.

The star attraction at Kampung Batik Trusmi is the *Megamendung* motif, a signature style of Cirebon batik. This motif features distinctive cloud-like shapes in a variety of vibrant colors, symbolizing tranquility, patience, self-control, serenity, and strength.

In addition to the Megamendung motif, there are other batik motifs such as Paksinaga Liman and Patran Keris. Cirebon batik is known for its vibrant colors, reflecting a blend of Chinese culture and the influence of the local Cirebon royal courts.

2. Kauman Batik Village, Pekalongan

Another batik village tourist destination in Indonesia worth visiting is Kampung Batik Kauman in Pekalongan. Pekalongan has long been known as Indonesia's "Batik City" and has even been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network since 2014.

Kauman Batik Village is located within the city of Pekalongan and has long been known as a hub for batik artisans. Distinctive Pekalongan batik motifs found here include *Jlamprang*—featuring geometric star patterns—and *buketan*, which showcases floral designs reflecting European influences.

Kampung Batik Kauman features not only craft centers and batik shops but also a variety of historic buildings worth photographing.
Notable historic structures include Omah Lawang Songo, Omah Kreatif, and the Jami Pekalongan Mosque, all of which are part of the history of Pekalongan City.

The Lasem Batik Village, located in the eastern part of Rembang Regency, Central Java, is a batik tourism destination not to be missed—especially by enthusiasts of culture and history. Beyond the charm of its old town and Peranakan Chinese culture, Lasem Batik is also renowned for its beauty.

Located on the north coast of Java, the Lasem Batik Village is renowned for its distinctive batik colors, such as "chicken-blood red" and blue—signature hues that are difficult for other regions to replicate. Additionally, the village boasts a collection of batik featuring *Burung Hong* (phoenix), dragon, and *Gunung Ringgit* motifs, which represent a blend of local and Chinese cultures.

What makes it even more fascinating is that the entire batik-making process in Kampung Batik Lasem is still carried out manually and traditionally by the local community. Since every piece is *batik tulis* (hand-drawn batik), the work requires great care and a considerable amount of time. It is no wonder, then, that Lasem Batik is known for its relatively high price. Yet, it is all well worth the effort and the philosophical value embodied in the batik, isn't it?

4. Tanjungbumi Batik Village, Madura

Batik is found not only on the island of Java but also on Madura. Therefore, one can visit a batik village tourist destination in Bangkalan Regency, Madura: the Tanjungbumi Batik Village.

The Tanjungbumi Madura Batik Village is a coastal area synonymous with the lives of fishermen. Local women spend their time creating batik, producing various patterns—such as the butterfly and *Tumpal* motifs—that blend Arab cultural influences with the spiritual and cultural values of the local community. Additionally, the village is renowned for the vibrant colors characteristic of coastal batik.

The richness of its motifs and color patterns has made Tanjungbumi Madura Batik popular among a wide audience, both domestically and internationally. Furthermore, the intricate craftsmanship and profound philosophical significance of its designs imbue Tanjungbumi Madura Batik with great value.

5. Laweyan Batik Village

Another batik village destination in Indonesia that you simply shouldn't miss if you want to gain a deeper understanding of batik is Kampung Batik Laweyan. Located in the Laweyan district of Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, this batik village is one of the most legendary in the country.

The Laweyan area dates back to the era of the Pajang Sultanate, prior to the 15th century. It subsequently flourished during the 1900s—amidst the independence movement—under the auspices of the *Sarikat Dagang Islam* (SDI), led by Kyai Haji Samanhudi. During that period, numerous batik entrepreneurs emerged who successfully exported their products to international markets.

As a premier tourist destination in Solo, the Laweyan Batik Village offers a comprehensive and integrated tourism experience. Visitors can not only learn about the history and production of batik but also appreciate the architecture of the historic homes in the Laweyan area. These houses—formerly owned by wealthy batik merchants—have been transformed into showrooms and batik shops. And, of course, be sure to pick up some authentic Solo batik souvenirs that are truly worthy of a collection.

Another interesting fact is that Kampung Batik Laweyan has been a pioneer of the eco-friendly modern batik industry since 2006, thanks to its implementation of a communal wastewater treatment plant. That’s really impressive!

6. Cibuluh Batik Village

Who says Cirebon is the only place in West Java with a *batik* village tourist destination? Not far from Jakarta lies the Cibuluh Batik Village, located in the North Bogor District of Bogor City, West Java. Many people are likely unaware that Bogor boasts *batik* that is just as captivating as that of other regions in Indonesia.

The Cibuluh Batik Village in Bogor was officially inaugurated on August 24, 2019. It is the first batik-themed tourist destination in Bogor City and a producer of both traditional and contemporary stamped and hand-drawn batik that highlights the city's diverse icons. What began as an initiative to develop educational tourism has evolved into an area that empowers the local community through sustainable tourism and economic activities.

Some of the distinctive batik motifs from Kampung Batik Cibuluh include the Pancawati, Opan Hanjuang, and Harimau Siliwangi patterns. The colors range from natural tones—such as brown, black, and white—to bright, vibrant hues.

7. Tanjung Pinang Gonggong Batik Village

It is not only Java that boasts batik village tourist destinations; Sumatra also has a batik village that is every bit as impressive as those found on Java. This is Kampung Batik Gonggong, located in Tanjung Pinang City on Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province.

In reality, the name "Kampung Batik Gonggong" refers more to an industrial hub specializing in the *Gonggong* motif rather than a traditional batik village district. Various local batik shops can be found throughout the city of Tanjung Pinang. The name *Gonggong* itself is derived from a signature Riau Islands delicacy made from sea snails.

The Gonggong motif is arguably unique. After all, this batik pattern is found exclusively in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands. Its color palette is dominated by the bright, vibrant hues characteristic of coastal regions, making it all the more appealing to admire.

Those are seven batik village tourist destinations in Indonesia that culture enthusiasts—especially batik lovers—simply must visit. What’s more, some of them are off the beaten path and not yet widely known.
